Slovakia’s second largest city is familiar to anyone into marathon races. The International Peace Marathon held in Košice is considered the third oldest marathon in the world and Europe’s first modern 26-miler. This extraordinary race celebrated its centenary in 2023. On the first Sunday of October, the race welcomes scores of international elite distance runners. You are welcome to join them!
Where stars are born
Are you a winter sports fan? Jasná, in the Low Tatras, has the largest ski resort in Central Europe and will once again host the Alpine Ski World Cup in January 2024. Witness thrilling races by the world’s best female skiers, including Slovakia’s number one, Petra Vlhova, the reigning Olympic slalom champion. You yourself can enjoy over 50 km of meticulously groomed slopes suitable for all levels of skill. The powdery flats on the southern side of Chopok peak are perfect for beginners, while experienced freeriders love the steep runs on its northern side.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like for the world’s best cyclists to make it to the podium? Get a firsthand experience in the homeland of well-known cyclist Peter Sagan! Take part in the legendary L’Etape Slovakia amateur race. The race conditions are much like those of the Tour de France, including the world-class mechanical support. Closed routes, the highest safety standards, professional support and the official ceremony on the podium with Tour de France jerseys all figure in the experience.
Meet your cycling heroes
Experience the crème de la crème of the cycling world. Visit Slovakia in mid-September when the stage road race Okolo Slovenska (Tour of Slovakia) takes place. Since 2017 it has been classified as a 2.1 event in the UCI European Tour World. This is It offers a great opportunity to see European champions and top teams. Cheer them on as the international peloton crosses the country.
If you want to design your own tour, get excited: Slovakia has more than 16,000 kilometers of well-marked cycling routes of various levels of difficulty. With its road cycling, mountain biking, EuroVelo routes and downhill trails, Slovakia satisfies every type of cyclist.
Training center for elite athletes and for you
In the town of Šamorín, just a 30-minute drive from Bratislava, is the world-class training facility x-bionic® sphere. This oasis for all kind of athletes covers an area of one million square meters and offers outstanding facilities for 26 Olympic sports. Try your best in the 50-meter-long Olympic pool, take part in a friendly basketball match or feel the excitement at one of many international horse races.
