See Slovakia in bloom

Spring is the perfect season to travel in Slovakia. The calm and quiet of awakening nature soothes both body and soul. Leave the bustle of the city behind and embrace the fresh energy and optimism that come with meadows bursting into color and trees bathed in gentle spring sunshine. In this environment, you will find renewed strength, joy and inspiration.

Slovak nature truly comes alive in the spring. Devínska Kobyla, overlooking Bratislava, enchants visitors with its vibrant palette of wildflowers, rare orchids, and sweeping views of the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers. Equally captivating is Muránska planina National Park. Flower-filled meadows, babbling brooks and playful ground squirrels create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. At its heart lies meadov Veľká lúka —  a truly natural gem and a favorite destination for visitors seeking open horizons and tranquility.

In the very center of the country, near the town of Hriňová, you will discover the remarkable scattered settlements known as Hriňovské lazy. This picturesque landscape, the Polana Biosphere Reserve, part of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program, offers a rare glimpse into traditional rural life. The terraced fields of the Podpoľanie region form a unique cultural heritage and a living reminder of the past. In spring, hedgerows of wild rose, blackthorn and cherry blossom lend the scenery an almost magical quality. Visit during the Easter season to experience enduring local customs and heartfelt traditions.

For a spring day filled with fragrance, color, and quiet stories hidden in the treetops, head to The Mlyňany Arboretum of the Slovak Academy of Sciences near Nitra. Established in the late 19th century as an ambitious vision for the first-evergreen park in Central Europe, the 40-hectare estate today boasts Slovakia’s richest collection of non-native woody plants.

Winding paths lead not only to a neo-classical manor house, but also to majestic oaks and hornbeams that have stood here for up to two centuries. Divided into thematic sections, the arboretum presents Slovak, East Asian, Korean, and North American flora — as though you were traveling across continents in a single, unhurried stroll.

A unique spring ambience also awaits at the Botanical Garden in Košice. Spanning 30 hectares and featuring 3,500 square meters of glass greenhouses, it is home to more than 4,000 plant species from around the world. The largest botanical garden in Slovakia, it also features the country’s most extensive collection of cacti and cycads.

In the tropical and subtropical greenhouses, exotic orchids flourish alongside fascinating “living fossils” such as Wollemi pine, ginkgo and dawn redwood.
