Poloniny on a bicycle

Národný (national) Park Poloniny is an all but undiscovered and still untouched area in eastern Slovakia, which today is on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list. The Starina Reservoir, the largest source of drinking water in Slovakia and one of the largest water sources in Europe, is located in its territory. One of the most sought-after displays in Poloniny takes place at night, when the sky awakens to unprecedented beauty and, thanks to the cleanest of air here, opens a treasure chest of stars for visitors. Národný Park Poloniny invites attractive cycling experiences along the bike route from the village of Ulič to Runina. The trail is set in beautiful natural surroundings where visitors will find the longed-for peace they may only have dreamed about.
Muránska planina on foot or by mountain bike
The national park with the highest level of protection offers dramatic karst plains and dense forests. Muránska planina is the place that gave rise to a unique breed of horse and is now home to a very friendly tourist attraction: the European ground squirrel. Thanks to the park’s infrastructure, it is an ideal place for those seeking peace, authentic experiences, and contact with nature. Marked trails lead from places such as Tisovec and Muráň into the heart of the national park.
The Západné Tatry mountains in autumn
While the Vysoké Tatry mountains experience an influx of tourists in summer, the Západné Tatry, or Western Tatras, invite you to take quiet walks on marked trails and enjoy beautiful views and the colorful shadows and profiles of rocky peaks particularly in the autumn. Favorite routes are hiking the ridge from Žiarska dolina (valley) to Baranec or the hike from Jalovecká dolina to Baníkov, where you are likely to come across more chamois than tourists.
The Malé Karpaty mountains on foot
This is a beautiful location not far from the capital, Bratislava, but sufficiently distant from frenetic urban activity to provide quiet and calm. Set off from the little town of Modra to the peak of Vysoká, or travel along the ridge by foot or mountain bike from Bratislava’s Kamzík to the town of Pezinok. The Malé Karpaty (Little Carpathians) offer peace and relaxed hiking; when you are pleased with your performance, treat yourself to a pleasant environment for refreshment in the towns nearby under the Carpathians, with their local delicacies and wines. This is an ideal combination of pleasure, active tourism, and relaxation in nature.
