Natural places for extraordinary ecotourism

Poland is a treasure trove of natural wonders, with over 1,500 nature reserves. Each one protects unique environmental treasures and invites visitors to experience them.

Barycz Valley: Poland’s wetland wonder

In the heart of the picturesque Barycz Valley in Lower Silesia lies the globally exceptional Stawy Milickie (Milicz Ponds). This is Europe’s largest complex of fishponds, encompassing roughly 285 bodies of water over more than 77 km². Human activity and the natural rhythm of nature have intertwined here for centuries: Cistercian monks built the ponds in the 13th century, creating a paradise for fish and birds in the wetlands of the Barycz River.

Today, this unique pond reserve is listed among the Living Lakes network alongside giants such as Lake Baikal and Lake Victoria.

Birdwatcher’s dream

Every year, thousands of birds visit the ponds, as do ornithologists from around the world to watch species found nowhere else. White-tailed eagles, cranes, lesser spotted eagles, red kites, and vast colonies of cormorants create an unforgettable display of sounds and movement. Surrounding the ponds are riparian forests, alder swamps and oak groves, with water lilies and colorful aquatic plants blooming in the water. Here you can absorb nature with all your senses, visiting on foot or by bike, with camera in hand.

Seaside vibes in Gdynia

Gdynia, one of the main Tricities, features a green gem, the Kępa Redłowska Reserve. It’s one of the few places where a beech forest descends almost to the sea, forming coastal cliffs with breathtaking views. The reserve perfectly combines shady forest walks under ancient trees, beach relaxation, and seaside birdwatching. Mountain-hiking lovers should include Homole Gorge  in the Pieniny Mountains. This picturesque nature reserve features steep rock walls and a murmuring stream cutting through a narrow valley. Wooden bridges and convenient paths lead along one of the region’s most beautiful trails. In summer, the gorge’s cool air brings relief, and in autumn, the colorful leaves transform it into a magical realm.
