Romantic escapes in Ireland

Ireland has a knack for making the romance of Valentine’s Day feel effortless. Think cozy places to stay, interesting things to do, and days that don’t need much planning to feel special.

Dublin offers relaxed city breaks built around food, culture and long walks. Base yourself near St Stephen’s Green at The Shelbourne or The Merrion, both near galleries, parks, and quiet streets. Wander through the National Gallery, browse bookshops, or walk through Phoenix Park, and visit the Shrine of St Valentine at Whitefriar Street Church

The historic towns and countryside of Ireland’s Ancient East are a natural fit for couples eagerg to explore at their own pace. In Kilkenny, staying at Mount Juliet Estate gives you riverside walks, fireside dining, and plenty of space to slow down. The city itself is ideal for exploring medieval streets, craft shops, and cafés. In Wicklow, a stay at Powerscourt Hotel pairs well with walks around Glendalough and Lough Tay in theWicklow Mountains

For a quieter time, Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands is perfect. At Lough Ree, Wineport Lodge is known for lakeside rooms and relaxed dining, with the focus firmly on switching off and enjoying the setting. Days might include a short Shannon cruise, cycling a nearby greenway, and taking time over regional cuisine.

Along the Wild Atlantic Way, the setting does most of the work. In Donegal, Harvey’s Point is popular with couples, set beside still water and woodland walks. Further south, couples can enjoy romantic walks on Keem Strand, seafood lunches in Clifden, and a memorable stay at Loop Head lightkeeper’s cottage. When it comes to the perfect romantic gift, it doesn’t get better than the iconic Claddagh ring, or the enduring legacy of the famous Aran jumper, which you can purchase on a trip to the Aran Islands

Belfast is a brilliant city for a romantic break, with great food, a strong cultural scene, and neighborhoods that are easy to explore together. Stay at The Fitzwilliam Hotel, well placed for the Cathedral Quarter, galleries, and some of the city’s best restaurants. Days can be spent exploring neighborhoods on foot, dropping into exhibitions or cafés, and walking along the River Lagan, while evenings suit live music, theatre, or an unhurried dinner.

Elsewhere in Northern Ireland, romance comes with more space and a slower pace. For a spa-focused escape, Galgorm is well known for its thermal village and woodland setting, where days revolve around riverside walks and tasty meals. Around Strangford Lough, lakeside strolls and boat trips set the tone for gentle days, with small villages and seafood spots dotted along the shore. On the north coast, an overnight stay in the quaint town of Bushmills opens up quiet coastal walks and off-season visits to the Causeway Coast, while Bishop’s Gate Hotel makes a comfortable base for exploring Derry~Londonderry’s riverside paths, museums, and small, characterful dining spots.
