Literature & Wine Festival

The Literature & Wine Festival is a very unique festival that mixes literature and music with wine tasting set in historic scenery. It has been taking place annually since 1999 at the Benedictine monastery, Goettweig Abbey, which is situated on the Eastern edge of one of Austria’s most famous wine regions, The Wachau, (in the North of the Danube and the North East of Vienna), perched 449 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Gottweiger Berg mountain.

The Literature & Wine Festival is a four day long event that attracts hundreds of people who are interested in the magical combination of culture and wine. The wines served during the festivities are all locally grown and the evening events at Goettweig Abbey are accompanied by modern Viennese music.

Apart from the programmed events at Goettweig Abbey (this year’s program starts with a guided tour of the Abbey’s Library, Archive and St. Cecile’s Hall), there are also readings in the House of Literature.
