Autumn: vibrant landscapes and seasonal highlights

Autumn in Germany is a season full of colors, scents, and experiences. The season brings a bounty of apples, chestnuts, and mushrooms, while the grape harvest fills the air with festive moments. Germany’s spas and health resorts are perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration, making autumn a time for enjoyment and relaxation.

Nestled in northern Germany between Hamburg, Bremen, and Hanover, the Lüneburg Heath is one of the truly enchanting autumn destinations. Here, the largest contiguous heathland in Central Europe glows in the warm hues of autumn, with broom and bell heather, juniper bushes, and herds of heather sheep creating a picturesque landscape. The Wilseder and Wietzer Berg mountains provide breathtaking views of the autumn-colored heathland.

Germany also offers plenty of opportunities to embrace the beauty of winter in the great outdoors in wintertime. The Harz Mountains region is well known for sledding and hikes through snow-covered forests. The Harz Narrow Gauge Railways take you to the top of the mountains, offering spectacular views and an unforgettable experience of riding through picturesque winter landscapes.
