A top-score city in Flanders

The US, Canada, and Mexico may have served as the epicenter of world football during the 2026 World Cup, but in Belgium, Bruges became its true football capital, with Club Brugge winning its sixth national title in a decade winning in 2026.

Bruges is bursting with football tales, but there’s also lots to discover beyond the Jan Breydel Stadium. Where else can you find an entire historic center recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Bruges' central Market Square has been a hive of activity for centuries. This is where you'll find the beautiful Belfry, especially beautiful when it’s in the spotlight. Conquer the 366 steps of this tower and you'll be rewarded with a magnificent panorama!

Then it's time for you to explore the city. Walk alongside the Brugse Reien, the narrow canals that wind among the streets. Before you know it,  the perfect moment for your socials arrives at the Rozenhoedkaai, a symbol of romance. You're guaranteed to score plenty of hearts and likes.

Along the way, admire the facades of buildings; there's also plenty to see on the inside, for instance, the monumental City Hall, built in the 14th century. The Gothic Hall, with its impressive, vaulted ceiling and murals depicting the city's history, is a gem. At St. Saviour's Cathedral you can see a valuable collection of paintings. Among the delights is art by Flemish Primitives Dieric Bouts and Hugo van der Goes.

Flemish Primitives and AI-driven art

These Flemish Primitives are of great importance in Bruges, as the foundation of this art movement was laid here. You'll discover the life and work of these masters in such museums as the Groeninge Museum and St John's Hospital. In the attic of the latter, you’ll step into the world of Hans Memling, where the Closer to Memling Experience brings his oeuvre to life.

Speaking of art, you’re also welcome at BRUSK. This brand-new art gallery opened recently in the museum district. Enjoy two exhibitions there: Bigger Pictureexplores the development of medieval Bruges in some 350 art and heritage objects; Latent City is an exhibition by Refik Anadol. This pioneer in AI-driven art explores the metropolis as a living, breathing creature.

How do you relax after a day packed with heritage in Bruges? In the same way you do after an exciting football match: with a glass of excellent beer. Explore Belgium's rich beer culture at Bruges Beer Experience, where you can experience this brewing craftsmanship first-hand, or visit one of Bruges' superb breweries, such as De Halve Maan, Bourgogne des Flandres, or Fort Lapin. You could also simply sit back, relax and enjoy the view from an outdoor seat at one of the city's many welcoming cafés. You'll have fun no matter what you do!
