Explore with respect for nature

Czechia offers countless places where you can enjoy the beauty of nature, discover something new, and do so without putting a strain on the environment through your actions. Welcome to the world of ecotourism!

Where to watch wildlife?

If you’re drawn to nature and would like to observe animals with respect for their natural habitat, Czechia offers plenty of opportunities. One such place is the Bird Area near the Nové Mlýny Reservoir in the heart of the wine-growing Pálava region. This area is ideal for birdwatching. You can also observe birds in the pond landscapes of the Třeboň Region.

One absolute must-see is the Boubín Virgin Forest. That’s right, a virgin forest! In the very heart of Šumava, the forest is guarded by trees almost half a millennium old and is also home to the Eurasian lynx. There’s no need to worry, as according to experts you’re very unlikely to encounter this shy beast in person. One interesting opportunity to get a closer look at Czechia’s wildlife is at the wolf enclosure with its viewing platform at the Srní Visitor Centre.

Near Kutná Hora, where the global hit Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is set, you can observe a herd of white deer in the Žehušice game reserve. The Podyjí National Park offers wild nature with sightings of European otters, black storks, bats, and various species of amphibians. Educational trails and lookout towers with views over the Dyje River meanders are perfect for observing both the landscape and wildlife. You can encounter other protected species near the Rešov Waterfalls in the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area or in the Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape, which is ideal for both cycling and hiking.

Glamping: luxury in harmony with nature

For those who love nature but don’t want to give up comfort, there’s glamping — stylish accommodation in nature with minimal environmental impact. Cabins, yurts, treehouses, and floating houses are often built from natural materials, use renewable energy sources, and are thoughtfully integrated into the landscape. Many of them offer breakfasts made from local ingredients and themed stays. You can also stay at eco-farms.

Herbal harmony

Travelling can also be a source of inspiration through eco-workshops, beekeeping courses, herbal seminars, or visits to eco-centers such as Slunakov near Olomouc. You can even create your own natural perfume at Nobilis Tilia in Vlčí Hora, discover the healing power of herbs in the herbal spa traditions of the Šumava region, or follow the lavender trail in the Jizerské Mountains.

Tip: Botanicus in Ostrá is a medieval-style village and garden complex that shows what life was like in the past.

Gentle travel choices

Responsible travel also means choosing green transport. Instead of a car, take advantage of Czechia’s dense railway network or rent a (e-)bike. In Prague, you can enjoy an emission-free boat ride on the Vltava River —  or discover the beauty of the Czech capital on foot!
