Explore the Carpathian Garden

Come and explore the land between the Carpathians, the Danube, and the Black Sea. Discover enchanting cities, breathtaking nature, and impressive culture, including authentic rural life where time still follows ancient rhythms.

Romania is a land of natural beauty, where all types of scenery are to be found, from mountains to hills, plateaus, plains, coastline, and the Danube Delta. At the heart of the country lie the Carpathian Mountains, which embrace famous Transylvania and hidden places of true wilderness in 27 national and nature parks. These inspire visitors to enjoy active visits and adventure. The hill regions welcome you with the appetizing scent of fruits and wines, which have been produced here for more than 3000 years. Views of vast plains of grains and sunflowers will enchant you.

To the south, the Danube forms the country’s border, flowing from the Iron Gates to the Black Sea, where it transforms into a wonderful Delta. Declared a UNESCO Nature Site and Biosphere Reserve, it is the only delta with biosphere reserve status in the world. The Danube Delta is the third richest biosphere reservation in the world in terms of biodiversity, after the Great Barrier Reef and Galapagos Islands, and is home to more than 7,000 known species of plants and animals. It is also the third largest delta in Europe, after the Volga and Kuban deltas.

Visitors are welcome at hundreds of archaic villages situated in picturesque locations all over the country. Not only can visitors tour the sites, they can also be special guests who participate in household activities: cooking, wood carving, weaving, hay making, and working the land. Two outstanding villages were added to the Upgrade Program of the UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages competition in 2024: Polovragi (Gorj County) and Breb (Maramureș County).
