Visit Pärnu for health, romance, and family fun

Geese might head south for the winter, but spa lovers head to Estonia. Estonians are so fond of spas that they have one of the highest rates of spas per capita in Europe — there are over 40 spas in this country of 1.3 million people! Those who are serious about relaxation and rejuvenation head to Pärnu

The history of Pärnu goes back to the Middle Ages when it was a key city on the Hanseatic trade route. Then, in the 19th century, it became a popular seaside resort town. Visitors have been warding off the winter chill in the cozy confines of Pärnu’s saunas and steam baths ever since. With eight different spas to choose from, Pärnu has something for everyone.

Healthy holidays at a medical spa

Rinse away impurities, detox in luxury, and jumpstart your metabolism with a holiday at Tervise Medical Spa or ESTONIA Medical Spa & Hotel, two of Pärnu’s spas specializing in medical treatments.

A clean start requires clean eating. Try Liana Kohvik for a 100% vegetarian menu. It’s the go-to spot for the local vegan community. Many restaurants have vegetarian or vegan options, though, even if they cater to carnivores. Take a look at Cafe Kastrul, for example. Their menu changes with the seasons, focusing on fresh, local ingredients. Leivakas Bakery & Cafe even offers vegan pizza and brownie options for a healthy treat.

Spas for a romantic getaway

If a romantic spa holiday is in the cards this year, one of these spas will tick all your boxes:

To top off a day of relaxation, head for dinner at Villa Ammende, an elegant home built in 1905 that is now a luxurious hotel and restaurant. A 17th-century building is home to Pastoraat, another popular place among couples looking for a romantic night out. This local Pärnu favorite has repeatedly earned a spot in the White Guide’s list of recommended restaurants.

Fun for the whole family

Now is also a good time to plan for school breaks and spring holidays. Even the littlest family members can enjoy a spa holiday; these family-friendly spas have all the amenities you need for traveling with babies and toddlers, plus shallow heated pools designed for kids. Escape the daily demands of school and work routines with a getaway to one of these Pärnu family favorites:

For a meal out with the kids, dig into some delicious pizza at Steffani. You could also try another White Guide favorite, Kohvik Supelsaksad. The colorful vintage interior will delight parents and children alike. If the little ones need to stretch their legs after eating, take a walk along the beach — you just might spot some brave men and women ice fishing out on the frozen bay.
