Local flavors and respect for nature
In Slovakia, food isn’t just about taste — it’s about people, places, and the stories that connect them. Across the country, family recipes and regional traditions are passed down through generations, shaping a cuisine rooted in authenticity and care. Local stories and foods combined transform into exceptional culinary travel experiences in Slovakia!
Visit Modra: wine, nature, and craftsmanship
In the Little Carpathians’ foothills, in a town with deep roots in viticulture, lies Wild Kitchen, an incredible restaurant based on fresh, local, honest ingredients. It invites diners to a world of flavors, each with its own origin, story and soul.
Its founder, Martin Plastiak, returned to Slovakia after decades of working in elite kitchens in the USA with a vision to bring quality world cuisine to the heart of the country. He chose Modra, where the tradition of winemaking and a new wave of artisan producers coexists.
Wild Kitchen is a space where bread rises slowly and with love, where the lokše — a type of potato flatbread — are soft and supple, and where goat cheese tastes as if it comes from a mountain meadow. The restaurant’s garden is one source of fresh ingredients; wild plants from nearby give the dishes a unique character.

Modra Ceramics
The restaurant is located in what was originally a workshop for making wooden barrels. It has been sensitively renovated and awarded for its contribution to the preservation of local architecture. The open kitchen allows you to see the process of food creation — a world where simplicity turns into an exceptional experience.
Modra also offers other treasures — traditional Modra ceramics, an integral part of Slovak cultural heritage that has grown beyond the borders of Slovakia in importance and is now part of the prestigious European Ceramics Route. After a gastronomic experience, you can embark on a journey of knowledge of the craft that forms the identity of this region.

Welcome to Nitra Region: a land of good wine and honest food
In southwest Slovakia, where the River Hron winds peacefully through the countryside, tradition meets craft and taste meets story. Aside from wine experiences, you’ll also find a unique culinary treasure here, the Farmer’s Market in Bátovce, which turns into a lively center of local flavors, aromas and encounters from 7:30 to 11:30 every Saturday.

Farmer’s Market in Bátovce
This market was the first SLOW FOOD Earth Market in Slovakia. It was founded in 2019 on the initiative of farmers and producers who believe in the power of quality food. In 2022, it became part of the global Mercati della Terra network under the auspices of Slow Food International, a movement that has been protecting culinary traditions and biodiversity for more than three decades.
The principles of good, clean and fair food come together at the market:
- Good: authentic flavors, variety, intensity.
- Clean: grown without chemical sprays, with respect for nature.
- Fair: producers are visible and fairly rewarded.
Each seller is a grower or producer. The market follows the Food Market Code, which guarantees quality, origin and responsibility. In Bátovce it’s not just shopping — it’s an experience, meeting the story behind each product and returning to the essence of food.
Welcome to Slovakia — a land of honest flavors.
