Half a dozen extraordinary camping experiences

Have you ever thought about camping in Flanders? You don’t even need to bring your own tent. You will find plenty of unique, adventurous and downright spectacular ways to camp here. Explore just a sample of a wonderful range:

1. Stay in a cabin by the sea

Sun, sea, beach and a luxury cabin in a hidden garden: At Cabanes d’Ostende, camping is wonderfully luxurious. In Ostend You can stay in a cozy, attractive interior surrounded by a park with a swimming pond and wellness island. It’s an ideal starting point for exploring all the assets of the Flemish coast.

2. Float on a raft in the Meuse Valley

Who says you can’t stay on the water? Afloat in the middle of the Negenoord Nature Reserve are two camping rafts. First, get yourself there by canoe, then enjoy a mesmerizing sunset from your snug sleeping bag. This is a special experience in the heart of Meuse Vally River Park. Discover this green gem during an extensive walk. This way, your adventure in nature is complete!

3. Go back to your childhood

A message to all nostalgics: the campsite In De Nachtegaal (in the nightingale) takes you back. Here you’ll find a selection of vintage caravans to rent for your vacation. They’ll transport you back to the summer camping trips of your childhood. Enjoy this delightful experience in the Westhoek, better known as Flanders Fields; a perfect opportunity to explore this WWI commemorative region.

4. Sleep in a tree house

While we’re on the subject of childhood, doesn’t your heart beat faster when you see a treehouse? In Retie, a lovely spot in the Antwerp Kempen region, you’ll find a whole village of them. Treelodge stands for nature, adventure, freedom and major holiday happiness — and that immediately makes it a great base for an adventurous bike ride. How about one that takes you Around the Abbey of Postel or up into the treetops?

5. Stay in an artwork on a tree

Camping can definitely be an artistic activity. This is clearly the case in Borgloon, in the unrivalled fruit region of Limburg. In the Tranendreef, you can stay in one of four teardrop-shaped sculptures in the trees. From there, a nice walk will take you to another artistic highlight: Reading Between the Lines. This “see-through church” is a sculpture such as you have never seen before.

6. Enjoy a “corny” camping trip

In this maze, you won’t be looking for the way out. You’ll be looking for a place to spend the night! Deep in the huge Maïsterplan “maize maze”, tents, suites and a tiny house have been set up. This is a great option for an adventurous stay in the small, picturesque city of Damme, just a stone’s throw from Bruges, also an ideal base for visiting this heritage gem.
