Carnaval Sztukmistrzów

Carnaval Sztukmistrzów is a festival held in Lublin since 2008. Street performers and masters of circus arts from all over the world come to Lublin to present breathtaking shows. It’s the most performatively diverse festival in the country, a unique and inspiring bazaar of the arts. Lublin’s Carnaval offers the best of contemporary circus, clowning, acrobatics, and busking from around the world. Visitors can meet sword swallowers, acrobats, and street performers who are bound to move them to tears of laughter.
An integral part of Carnaval Sztukmistrzów is Urban Highline Festival, known as the world’s largest and oldest highline event. It combines an integral element of the city’s identity – the iconic Magician of Lublin – with the emerging discipline of slacklining.
All attractions are located in the centre of the city and its historic quarter. Most events are free and open as they take place in the streets, squares, and plazas of the Old Town. Some events have a fee and can only be attended under the Big Top or in a theatre. Every year, several dozen young volunteers work on the festival, helping to animate the cultural life of the city.
Brace for a thrilling takeover as the circus performers unleash their awe-inspiring acts!  We have planned an open and freely accessible street programme, which includes breathtaking evening shows, outdoor spectacles, and street concerts. Tickets for closed performances can be purchased through the Going app. Carnaval visitors can look forward to a variety of street shows, duo acts, solos, musicians, and buskers, all in the streets, squares, and charming corners of the Old Town in Lublin. The event is one of the highlights of the European Youth Capital Lublin 2023.

Through the Grapevine

Wine has influenced the culture of Europe for centuries. Dating back to 1600 BC, the Romans spread wine grapes throughout Europe and quickly became skilled at classifying grape varieties and colors, observing characteristics, and building fertilization techniques. By the first century AD, wine was being exported from Italy to Spain, Germany, England and France. The world’s oldest operating winery, the Château de Goulaine in France, is still open to visitors today and was a reason the country and its surrounding area quickly dominated the world wine market.

Speculoos

Speculoos is a type of shortcrust biscuit, traditionally baked for consumption on or just before St Nicholas’ feast (December 6th) in the Belgium, the Netherlands and Northern France. In recent decades it has become available all year round. Speculoos are thin, very crunchy, slightly browned and, most significantly, have some image or figure (often from the traditional stories about St. Nicholas) stamped on the front side before baking; the back is flat. The Lotus brand is one of the most popular. You can also find them covered in chocolate…a real Belgian treat!
