Apple Wine Festival
Apple wine culture has been playing an important role in Frankfurt’s social life for hundreds of years. Locals and visitors come together every August to celebrate the city’s favourite tipple with their very own Apple Wine Festival. Apfelwein is a type of cider that is traditionally served from a blue-grey ceramic pitcher called bembel and drunk from a glass etched with a diamond pattern.
Festival visitors will find an excellent selection of local apple wine accompanied by local products and an entertaining folkore programme. The Apfelwein tastes the best with traditonal Handkäs’ mit Musik (cheeses marinated with vinegar and onion) and the Frankfurt ‘green sauce’ made from seven local herbs. Typical local music provides the perfect background for enjoying a sociable, laid-back evening.
