New tastes and old traditions

The tradition of wine in Slovakia is ancient, with roots in the Roman period. Now, the country’s six winegrowing regions each has its own specific character, soil conditions and grape varieties. The result is a wide range of wines that puts Slovakia ever more frequently on wine lists. Enthusiasts can enjoy the unique bouquet and taste of artisanal and organic wines.

The wine region of the town of Modra, where wine production has long been a part of its history, is a fine invitation to expandisng the taste experiences of the local wines on offer. If you find yourself in and around the capital city of Bratislava, this sun-drenched area is just a short step away, and wine invitations with your name on them are hidden in every courtyard or pleasantly cool cellar there.

Not far from Modra, under a cascade of vineyards, is the ancient town of Svätý Jur. With more than 700 years of winemaking tradition behind it, Svätý Jur has found its own story to tell. Here, too, in the lovely surroundings of a winery that is based in the original historical cellars of the Pálffy mansion, you can enrich your wine list with the beautiful tints of the flavors of local wines. You’ll feel like royalty for a moment.

From the Small Carpathians Wine Route, you reach the Nitra Region, where young winemakers with a craft approach have found their terroir on the rich volcanic subsoil. This region is today becoming one of the leaders of the new Slovak winemaking – honest, lively and bold. The history of this winegrowing location also began being written by the village of Strekov, the first written mention of which goes back to 1075.”

Its rich history and abundant present are sensitively balanced in the beautiful varieties and flavors of local wines and much sought-after wineries.

Our tip in this lovely, wine-rich location is a place created for visual and flavorful pleasures.  Discover this beautiful corner of the Earth and enjoy it in a glass of sparkling wine.

Let’s go even further, to an area in the south-east of Slovakia that is almost invisible on the map, though its reputation is worldwide and is written in capital letters on the wine list. The Tokaj.

The Tokaj wine region is unique with regard to its natural conditions and climate, which are provided by its long and dry autumn season. The region is concealed by the barrier of the Zemplín Mountains, which prevent rain clouds from penetrating to the south-west. You can enjoy the wines created by this unique climate and conditions in the sought-after wineries of the Tokaj region.

Tokaj wine without a doubt will be the royal culmination on the list of exceptional wines from this perhaps little-known but increasingly sought-after wine route.

Welcome to the land of wine discoveries; welcome to Slovakia.
