Finding romance in Flanders

Is Cupido's bow on target? Then your Valentine's Day should be lovely. In Bruges, you're sure to find the right ambiance to celebrate love. This historic city is one of Europe's most romantic spots.

1. Picture perfect Bruges: medieval romance

Together with your loved one, you can have a wonderful stroll along the medieval cobbled streets. Enjoy an embrace on the romantic Boniface Bridge, or lose track of time in the Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaerde. This world heritage site was founded around 1245. Its typical, white-painted cottages, cobbled streets, and delightful cloister garden take you centuries back in time. The Lake of Love Park on the edge of the city is another romantic highlight; hard not to be, with such a name!

Prefer to see all those beautiful things from another angle? From the water you get a different perspective of the historic heart of the city, the whole of which is listed as UNESCO World Heritage. Choose a romantic boat trip on the Bruges canals. Glide over the water, guided by snow-white swans, an unforgettable experience!

2. Belgian chocolate, food for lovers

Love sends happiness hormones such as dopamine and endorphins racing through your body. Chocolate does the same. In Flanders, they both go hand in hand. Our Belgian chocolate is an unbeatable treat.

You can discover these goodies at Choco Story. This museum brings the story of chocolate to life. After a thrilling tour, you can even get to work yourself. At workshops you have the chance to make your own pralines. Is your mouth already watering? Then discover the surprising taste sensations at The Chocolate Line. Where else can you try pralines with caramelized shrimp heads, fermented mushrooms, or freshly cut grass?

3. Fairy tale castles in Bruges' hinterland

Love knows no boundaries. It also lingers in the green spaces around the city. This hinterland is dotted with beautiful castles; Loppem Castle is one lovely example. This grand construction stands on an artificial island, hidden in a romantic park with ponds and a maze. The countryside is also ideal for a trip on two wheels. Rent a bike and set off for an idyllic adventure among many stunning castles. Keen to stay a little longer? Why not spend the night in a castle? It will make you feel like true royalty!
