Cyprus in springtime

While much of Central and Northern Europe remains in winter’s chill, Cyprus in March tells a different story. Emerald-green fields stretch across the plains, almond trees burst into bloom, and temperatures reach a pleasant 19–20°C (66–68°F). It is a season of renewa: vivid, fragrant and quietly captivating.

Inland valleys transform into a sea of blossoms. Almond trees flower in shades from pure white to soft and deep pink, their bare branches crowned only with delicate petals. Set against lush green landscapes, they create striking natural compositions, a true herald of spring and a favorite local excursion. It is a time to pause, breathe and admire nature’s artistry.

Cyprus also offers a rare seasonal contrast. Within an hour’s drive, you can leave sun-warmed plains and rise into the crisp air of the Troodos Mountains, where snow may still rest on the peaks. Fir trees and cedars rise above the slopes, sometimes dusted in white, are layered in shades of green. Few places allow you to experience spring blossoms and snowy scenery in the same day!

March is also the season of one of the island’s rarest treasures: the wild tulip, Tulipa cypria. With deep crimson petals and a striking dark center edged in yellow, this endangered species grows in limestone landscapes, open fields, and forest edges. It is celebrated annually in the village of Polemi and can also be found on the rugged Akamas Peninsula. If you encounter it, admire its beauty and help protect it by leaving it untouched.

This is Cyprus beyond the classic summer postcard; it’s nature trails through olive groves and pine forests, wildflowers scattered across rolling hills, and peaceful villages where time slows down. It is a chance to reconnect with the landscape and with yourself.

If the sea still calls, head eastward to Larnaka and Agia Napa, where the waters are often calmer and slightly warmer in early spring.

March is the perfect month to discover Cyprus from a different perspective, at your own pace, in your own peace.
