The Carnival of Binche is one of Europe’s oldest surviving street carnivals, held annually in Binche. Recognized by UNESCO, it is famous for the “Gilles,” performers wearing wax masks and traditional costumes who parade through the town to drum rhythms. Festivities include music, dancing, and the ceremonial orange-throwing ritual.
The carnival reflects centuries-old community traditions and strong local identity. It attracts visitors interested in living folklore and authentic regional customs.
Events take place throughout the town center. Train access is available from Brussels via La Louvière. Public celebrations are free.
