Come and discover its many charms
Why not choose to spend a few days discovering a little of Portugal? With its mild climate, 3000 hours of sunshine per year, and 850 km of splendid beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is the perfect holiday destination all year round.
To experience the true soul of Portugal, it is essential to slow down and explore the country’s hidden gems and lesser-known regions. Let yourself go, and savor everything we have to offer: varying landscapes; the aromas and flavors of our gastronomy; unique history and cultural traditions; UNESCO sites; and the sounds of nature. Explore the interior of Portugal along National Road 2 as it crosses the country from one end to the other, and get involved with the local communities at your own pace and with the freedom to choose what to see and what to do.
The country is home to an abundance of small villages and historic towns such as the Schist villages and the historic villages in the center of Portugal, where days pass slowly and hospitable locals always have time to welcome visitors and share their traditions.
The Natural Parks and Reserves, Geoparks and Biosphere Reserves recognized by UNESCO ensure that Portugal is also a favorite destination for outdoor activities. These can be more contemplative, such as birdwatching or stargazing, or more active, such as canyoning, rafting, or simply following nature trails on foot or by bike. You can take it at your own pace, sensing the aromas and sounds that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Whether you choose to have the sea by your side, as on the Vicentina Route (Rota Vicentina) that winds along the Alentejo and Vicentina Coast, or to go into the mountains, as in the Azores or Madeira archipelagos, the trails options are endless.
Should you prefer golf, Portugal is an internationally renowned destination for the sport, with excellent conditions for playing all year round. World-class surfing under all kinds of conditions includes excellent beaches such as Peniche, Nazaré, and Ericeira, which make surfing a 365-day-a-year activity in Portugal.
Don´t forget to support local economies during your stay by buying from local shops and markets. They have the advantage of offering personal service that you can trust. and make you feel welcome. Many have a long history that you can see reflected in the architecture, furniture or decoration; thanks to their owners’ passion, these have lasted so long. Choosing traditional traders for shopping helps to preserve this heritage and keep it alive in local history.
Remember, slow down and truly experience each place you visit in Portugal, and you will be rewarded with memories that last a lifetime.
