DRY LAND FORTRESS
Žužemberk is the largest town in Suha krajina (dry land in English) where Krka River springs. The most beautiful feature is Žužemberk Castle, an important fortress during the Turkish invasion. The castle is one of the most photogenic in Slovenia.

THE CASTLES OF THE TOWN BENEATH THE MOUNTAINS
As many as three castle complexes or their remains can be found in the medieval Kamnik. On the hill above the town lies Zaprice Castle, a Renaissance rural mansion, which now houses the Kamnik Regional Museum. On a lookout slope near the town you’ll find the ruins of the Old Castle and a terrace that impresses with beautiful panoramas of the surrounding Alps. But among the most recognizable symbols of the city is definitely the Mali Grad Castle, located within the town itself.

THE CASTLE OF MERCURY STORIES
Gewerkenegg Castle was not built for a noble family, but for the storage of mercury and the operation of the mine administration in Idrija. The stories of the mine and miners, as well as the specialties of Idrija lace are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

THE CASTLE OF THE ŠKOFJA LOKA
Škofja Loka, one of the most authentic medieval towns in Europe known for Škofja Loka Passion Play, is guarded by Loka Castle located on a slight hill. In its premises, the Loka Museum exhibits archeological, historical, cultural, artistic, natural and ethnological collections, and the castle tower unveils the story of Lubnik – the Mountain of Giants.

THE CASTLE OF THE TIMES GONE BY IN POSAVJE REGION
The most powerful building in Brežice was the residence of the noble Attems family in the 16th century. During the Baroque artistic flourishing, part of the castle was transformed into the Knight’s Hall, which with its impressive paintings represents a remarkable venue.

THE CASTLE OF THE OLDEST SLOVENIAN TOWN
Where people settled in the Stone Age and where Poetovia – the largest Roman fortress in Slovenia – was once located, Ptuj Castle has been standing for many centuries, offering the most photogenic view of Ptuj. The castle houses Ptuj-Ormož Regional Museum with exquisite collections of historical musical instruments, tapestries with scenes from the Odyssey and turquoises from the 17th century.
