Your guide to barrier-free travel

Switzerland welcomes everyone, making it the perfect destination for barrier-free travel. Whether you’re in a wheelchair, require assistance, or are traveling with a baby stroller, exploring this stunning landscape is both enjoyable and accessible. Start your journey at a well-organized, accessible Swiss airport.

From picturesque towns to breathtaking mountains, Switzerland offers a wealth of inclusive activities and accommodations. Procap’s  Tourism Inclusive is Switzerland’s information office for barrier-free travel, supporting individuals with disabilities and the tourism sector through guidance, awareness training, and project assistance for inclusive domestic and international travel. The non-profit organization Claire and George is a one-stop shop for accessible Swiss holidays and travel.

Accessible Accommodations

Switzerland offers a variety of barrier-free accommodations, including hotels, youth hostels, and holiday apartments. Many establishments prioritize accessibility with features like height-adjustable beds, ensuring comfort for guests with diverse mobility needs.

Assisted Rail Travel

Trains are simply the best way to move about within Switzerland, and the panorama train routes are among the most beautiful rail journeys in the world. Outstanding public transport is seamless for individuals with impaired mobility thanks to assisted rail travel. To request boarding assistance, simply call the SBB Call Center Handicap at least one hour before your departure.

Grand Train Tour of Switzerland

One of the best ways to see Switzerland is by taking an accessible Grand Train Tour of Switzerland. This tour includes picturesque lakes, majestic mountains, and exciting attractions. Each tour is customized to meet your unique needs, allowing for personalized itineraries that highlight your interests and preferences.

Convenient Car Travel

If you prefer driving, a number of disability transport services and car rentals are on offer in Switzerland. Designated disabled parking spaces are readily available if you have a disability ID.

Inclusive Excursions

Switzerland is rich in excursions designed for individuals with limited mobility, visual or hearing impairments, and other disabilities. Many attractions, from hiking trails to museums, are fully barrier-free, ensuring everyone can experience the country’s diverse landscapes and cultural richness.

To end with a fun, educational, and culinary activity that raises awareness, consider the blackout restaurant Blinde Kuh (“blind man’s bluff”) in Zurich and Basel. This non-profit foundation promotes dialogue between sighted and visually impaired individuals. Its acclaimed dining-in-the-dark concept is a key initiative and a significant source of employment for the blind.

No matter your situation, Switzerland ensures that everyone can travel, explore, and create unforgettable memories. Dive in and see how your next adventure awaits in this beautiful, inclusive country!
