Slovenian cuisine, deeply intertwined with its natural environment, is a rising star in the world of gastronomy. Boasting several Michelin-starred restaurants, including the prestigious three-star Hiša Franko, Slovenia has garnered global acclaim for its commitment to sustainability and using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

In recent years, Slovenia’s plant-based culinary scene has blossomed, seamlessly integrating with the country’s rich gastronomic tradition, which celebrates nature’s bounty. The country’s growing vegan offer is not just a trend but a testament to Slovenia’s commitment to sustainability and local food production.

In this spirit, Slovenia’s diverse plant-based dining options are thriving. In Petrovče near Žalec, the Vegastic vegan culinary evenings at Galerija okusov promise to delight with creative dishes that even meat enthusiasts find irresistible. Similarly, Michelin-starred chef Uroš Štefelin at Hiša Linhart in Radovljica crafts a vegan menu featuring traditional Slovenian ingredients with a modern twist, including inventive dishes such as a vegetable tartar and roast cauliflower with hazelnuts.

At Gostilna pri Lojzetu in Zemono Manor House, Chef Tomaž Kavčič offers a changing vegan menu daily, showcasing local produce with culinary artistry. In the far eastern part of Slovenia, in Zgornja Kungota, Chef Gregor Vračko’s pre-ordered vegan menu at Hiša Denk celebrates local traditions while embracing innovative flavors. In Nova Gorica, the European Capital of Culture 2025, Uroš Fakuč’s vegetable dishes from his home garden highlight the farm-to-table approach at Dam Restaurant.

Ljubljana offers a vibrant array of vegan dining options. Güjžina reimagines traditional Prekmurje dishes in a modern vegan style, while Barbarella Juicebar serves up seasonal, organic, cold-pressed juices and various savory vegan dishes. Grashka, Slovenia’s first plant-based deli at Center Rog, provides an extensive range of vegan products. Additionally, the renowned JB Restaurant in Ljubljana presents a seven-course vegetarian menu, which can be adapted to vegan upon request. Maha Bistro embraces its motto “Organic, healthy, nutritious, and delicious” with daily vegan lunches and à la carte dishes. VegaNika Bistro at Gornji trg serves globally inspired lunches and modern twists on Slovenian classics. Nearby, Pizzeria Piccola offers a variety of Roman-style vegan pizzas. Across the country, establishments such as Avokado in the coastal town of Koper and Public Bar & Vegan Kitchen Bled at the fairy-tale Lake Bled cater to plant-based preferences with flavorful breakfasts, lunches and snacks, while Kavarnica CukrDoza in Maribor is renowned for its vegan desserts.
