Three wonderful reasons to visit
1. FIFA U21 World Cup
In the summer of 2025, Slovakia will host the FIFA U21 World Cup. This is your chance to combine traveling and experiencing the world’s most popular sport in a country with football at heart, in the heart of Europe! Attend great football matches played — and watched — with emotion and passion in eight different Slovak cities. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the opportunities to join celebrations of your team’s victory and to try local dishes. The cities of Bratislava, Trnava, Trenčín, Dunajský Streda, Košice, Žilina, Nitra or Prešov will be offering football and gastronomic experiences that will be written in big letters in your travel diary.
2. Capital of Culture
Europe has chosen two cultural capitals for 2026 – and Trenčín is one of them. A rich cultural and creative warm-up for the city and the region will take place over the course of 2025. The theme of this exceptional event is cultural dialogue across Europe. Trenčín will both invite and export an exceptional cultural program through performances, workshops, concerts, and lectures. Contributing with conviction, energy and inventiveness to a sustainable and healthy world is the main goal. Surprises that resonate with culture in its most varied forms welcome you to Trenčín in 2025.
3. Pop art
Pop art was not born in Eastern Slovakia, but its roots go back to this part of the world. Not far from the village of Miková, where the parents of one of the most important artists of the 20th century come from, namely the town of Medzilaborce, you can visit the newly reconstructed Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art starting in the summer of 2025. The Museum of the King of Pop Art is the only one in Europe and features exceptional modern, multifunctional architecture, your pleasant companion while exploring Warhol’s works. After the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, this is Slovakia’s second most important museum reconstruction in the last 30 years. Plan an art-focused trip to an unfamiliar land and discover the works of pop art’s most famous artist, Andy Warhol. Combine your visual experience with an exploration of Medzilaborce and its surroundings, a town you might struggle to find on a map, but that will never get lost in your memories of an inspiring stay in Slovakia.
