Seek out and explore treasured water gems

While Serbia may not have a seaside, it boasts a diverse array of enchanting river islands that offer unique experiences and natural beauty. From the bustling Ada (Serbian for island) Ciganlija in Belgrade to the serene Krčedinska Ada on the Danube, these islands provide a perfect retreat for nature lovers, adventurers, and anyone seeking relaxation by the water.

Krčedinska Ada ― a safari with domestic animals

Krčedinska Ada, a hidden gem on the Danube River in Serbia, features lush forests and expansive meadows, creating a diverse ecosystem teeming with wildlife. There is also a surprise! This picturesque island just an hour away from Belgrade is a place to experience the charm of domestic animals that roam freely on the island. Herds of horses, cattle, and donkeys add a rustic touch to the landscape, creating picturesque scenes. Explore its natural beauty on foot or by boat and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of this untouched haven.

Great War Island ― a hidden gem in plain sight

Did you know that Great War Island is located in Belgrade, at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, between the Belgrade Fortress and the Zemun Fortress Gardoš? The island probably got its current name from its important position during numerous war operations in stormy centuries.

The best way to reach Great War Island is from Zemun Quay, where you can cross a pontoon bridge or take a boat to the island to swim at the popular Lido beach.

The island is heavily forested, dotted with meadows and ringed by sandy beaches. It is an important destination for birdwatchers as it is home to 196 species of birds. Especially important is the white-tailed eagle, the largest European eagle.

Great War Island is a great choice if you want to unwind from the city’s hectic tempo. Nowhere can you be so close to the city’s crowds, yet so connected to the peace and quiet of nature.

Ada Ciganlija ― Belgrade’s Oasis

Ada Ciganlija, Belgrade’s vibrant island oasis, known as the “Belgrade Sea,” is a popular recreational area. Enjoy swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and water skiing in the clear, refreshing waters of Sava Lake. The well-maintained beaches provide the perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun.

Ada Ciganlija boasts extensive sports facilities for tennis, football, golf, and cycling paths, as well as rock climbing and bungee jumping. Stroll along walking trails, have a picnic in lush green areas, or quietly spot the island’s wildlife.

Savor delicious meals at a variety of cafes and restaurants offering local and international cuisine. During the summer, enjoy live music, outdoor performances, and vibrant nightlife.

Discover Ada Ciganlija, where endless activities and natural beauty combine for an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or entertainment, this island oasis in the heart of Belgrade has something for everyone.
