Authentic peace, charm, and character

A different side of Malta awaits: charming alleyways, historic towns, quiet markets, and cultural gems, all far from the crowds. This is where you can experience the real Malta in a relaxed and authentic way.

Tranquility and timelessness in Mdina and Malta’s gardens

Begin in the heart of the island, where silence still comes naturally. Mdina, Malta’s former capital, is one of the island’s most enchanting places. Its narrow, winding streets and honey-colored facades radiate a meditative calm. This “silent city” feels like a journey back in time.

Malta’s gardens also offer moments of stillness. The Gardjola Garden in Senglea provides a panoramic view over the Grand Harbor, symbolized by the iconic Il-Gardjola watchtower. Further inland in Attard, the San Anton Gardens, once royal grounds, now form an idyllic park with fountains, flowers, and peacocks. The Msida Bastion Historic Gardens, originally a 17th-century cemetery, have been transformed into a blooming oasis of peace.

The Three Cities: hidden heritage by the harbor

Across the Grand Harbor the Three Cities: Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua. These ancient harbor towns form the historic core of Malta. Picture cobbled squares, restored palazzos, and charming promenades where time seems to stand still. In Birgu, you’ll find the intriguing Inquisitor’s Palace, revealing the surprising relationship between religion and political power.

Markets that reflect daily life

To get a true taste of local life, head to the markets. On the main island, the fishing village of Marsaxlokk comes alive every Sunday. Colorful luzzu boats bob in the bay as fishermen sell their fresh catch amidst fragrant herbs and local products.

Over on Gozo, Malta’s quieter sister island, Independence Square in Victoria is the bustling heart of daily life. Here, stalls offer local cheeses, honey, and handmade crafts. Nearby lies the welcoming It-Tokk Market, while on Sundays, a small farmers’ market brings a relaxed vibe to Xewkija.

Culture for every curious spirit

Malta brims not only with history but also culture. In the capital, Valletta, MUŻA, the national art museum, highlights Maltese identity through contemporary art. On Gozo, the Il-Ħaġar Museum reveals the island’s soul through exhibitions on heritage and faith. Families will enjoy the interactive Esplora Science Center in Kalkara, where science and play go hand in hand.

Small in size, rich in experience

Malta is best explored at your own pace. Beyond the well-trodden paths lie places of charm and authenticity. Here, tranquility, heritage, and hospitality go hand in hand. The island’s compact size makes it uniquely special: everything is close by, yet there’s always something new to discover.
