Divas and musical adventures all in one place
Do you like music, nature, or architecture? What about all of them at once? Then a place you’ll love is in Budapest at the House of Music Hungary. Take a deep look into the variety of attractions it offers, including open-air concerts and a brand-new exhibition arriving straight from the V&A London for a perfect summer cultural escape.
In the heart of Budapest’s renovated City Park is a magical place where anyone can find a personal connection to the world of sound and music. The House of Music Hungary is the newest, coolest place in the city for musical adventures!
Discover how architecture becomes part of nature
Designed by Japanese star architect Sou Fujimoto, the House is an iconic contemporary architectural masterpiece. Fujimoto envisioned an extravagant, modern building inspired by nature and music. On entering, you feel as if you’re still strolling in the park, thanks to the huge glass curtain walls and the light fountains of the organically undulating, floating roof. These introduce light down to the lowest floors and make space for trees to come up and reach to the sky. Exceptional care was given to using sustainable, climate-friendly solutions to satisfy one of the greatest challenges of our times.
Explore the great variety of musical attractions
This unique building hosts a variety of events across three levels. The top floor has a multimedia library and music education rooms to engage younger audiences with music. The park level offers concerts and other performing arts complemented by workshops and lectures. It also features an open-air stage for summer performances. The lower level hosts the permanent exhibition Sound Dimensions presents the history of Hungarian and European music through innovative installations. The Sound Dome provides an immersive audio-visual experience, and the Creative Sound Space allows visitors to play unique instruments. The highlight of summer 2024 is the opening of the upcoming exhibition entitled Divas & Icons, a must-see for all music fanatics.
Meet the legendary superstars of all time this summer
The Divas & Icons exhibition is a spectacular showcase that provides a comprehensive overview of the diva phenomenon and appeals to every generation. The highly successful traveling exhibition from the V&A Museum in London presents the extraordinary power and creativity of international and Hungarian divas through their stage costumes and outfits. Whether interested in classic film stars such as Elizabeth Taylor or Marilyn Monroe, inspired by Cher, Tina Turner, or captivated by contemporary stars like Beyoncé or Billie Eilish, there is something of interest for everyone.
House of Music Hungary isn’t just a building, but a living, breathing space that encapsulates the spirit of music, architecture, and nature. Whether you’re a seasoned concert-goer, a music enthusiast, or just looking for a unique cultural experience, this is a wonderful destination for you!
