Diverse cultural offer for music lovers in Budapest

When the chill of winter lingers, cozy indoor activities are the perfect way to enjoy your time. Whether you crave culture during the day or an exciting musical event in the evening, exhibitions and concerts in Budapest provide a fantastic experience for everyone.

Located in Budapest’s revitalized City Park, the first city park in Europe, the House of Music Hungary captivates visitors with its close-to-nature yet extravagant exterior, huge glass walls, and bright, airy interiors, where the transformative power of music is accessible to all.

This unique design by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto reflects the complexity of the institution, not only with its striking architecture but also the three pillars of its mission —exhibitions, concerts, and music education — to provide truly comprehensive musical experiences throughout the year.

The museum continues to offer captivating exhibitions, bringing music closer with warmth and inspiration to brighten your days even during the quieter seasons.

The House of Music Hungary invites you to explore music’s rich history with its unique permanent exhibition, “Dimensions of Sound — Musical Journey Through Space and Time”. Highlighting both European and Hungarian musical heritage, the exhibition delves into the development of sound, from ancient rhythms to modern-day compositions, showcasing music’s deep connection to the human experience. Be sure to set aside two to three hours for this interactive and immersive experience, which utilizes state-of-the-art technology in multiple languages to entertain in an engaging, playful manner.

The fully refurbished Sound Dome on the second level of the House just reopened, offering a full schedule for the House of Music’s one-of-a-kind, immersive cinema space. In this extraordinary room, works created specifically for the hemispherical screen are brought to life, delivering a truly immersive spatial experience. Visit the Sound Dome program calendar to learn more about this unique experience.

In March 2025, a new temporary exhibition, “LISTEN — A Musical Journey Around the World,” will open that invites visitors on an unusual musical journey. It brings together the unique musical traditions of our planet, from Georgia and Iceland through Belize to Crete,  Patagonia, and Hungary. Visitors can discover the relationship between nature and man, and through atmospheric sounds, special installations, and large-scale projections, they can get to know how musical traditions are formed and live all over the world, reflecting the melancholy and love of life at the same time. Don’t miss this unique sonic experience!

Come and treat yourself to music. Arm yourself with culture against the cold and warm up between activities with a delicious lunch or fragrant coffee in the museum’s restaurant or coffee bar. Discover the hidden treasures of the House of Music by yourself or with family and friends.
