Feb 7–21: SHROVETIDE PROCESSIONS IN THE HLINECKO REGION

Start the year off in grand style with an event on the UNESCO list! Enjoy the colorful costumes, cheerful songs, and a wide range of delicacies, from traditional cakes and donuts, sausages, black pudding and pork cracklings to homemade plum brandy that will blow your mind!

May 12–Jun 4: PRAGUE SPRING INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

In May, Prague comes alive with a world-famous music festival. Experience dozens of performances by some of the world’s best musicians, symphony orchestras, and chamber ensembles. In addition to excellent concerts, you’ll enjoy the historical backdrop of monasteries, churches, and museums.

May 27–28: RIDE OF THE KINGS IN VLČNOV

And there’s another UNESCO happening! This unique Czech carnival has been around for more than 200 years, when several villages in the east of Czechia immerse themselves in a festive atmosphere. You’ll be taken back by the traditional costumes, local specialties, and cheerful tones of the cimbalom and brass instruments!

Jun 22–25: STRÁŽNICE INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

Have you heard about Verbuňk – a Czech dance inscribed on the UNESCO list? You can see the very best Verbuňk dancers at the largest and oldest folklore festival in Europe, which takes place not only in the park around the castle and the vineyards but also in the Strážnice open-air museum. You can look forward to folk songs, dances, and costumes from all over the world!

Jun 27: GOLDEN SPIKE OSTRAVA

Experience the world’s top athletes in action at one of the oldest and most prestigious athletic competitions on earth!

Jun 30–Jul 8: KARLOVY VARY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

You don’t have to go to Cannes to enjoy the atmosphere of a film festival or see movie stars on the red carpet. You’ll be able to see dozens of premieres and maybe attend a star-filled party. Head to Karlovy Vary, which is listed as a UNESCO sight!

Jul 19–22: COLOURS OF OSTRAVA

One of the best and biggest multi-genre music festivals in Europe that you must experience at least once in your lifetime! Not only because of its great program but because it takes place in a unique, post-industrial area called Dolní Vítkovice, where you’ll feel as if you’re in a sci-fi movie, it’s a must-do.

Oct 8: VELKÁ PARDUBICKÁ STEEPLECHASE

Whether you’re a steeplechase fan or planning to go to one, the Velká pardubická is a sure bet. It is the oldest and probably the toughest cross-country horse race in continental Europe!
