The village of Plan de Corones sets the scene for the South Tyrolean Speck Festival. The South Tyrolean Speck Festival attracts many gourmands from near and far to the beautiful Villnöß Valley, where they can enjoy the breathtaking scenery while tasting the star of Alpine appetizer and snack platters: Speck Alto Adige PGI.

The Italian gourmet cured and smoked ham Speck Alto Adige PGI originated in the mountains and valleys on the south side of the Alps. Lightly smoked and cured in the open air, Speck Alto Adige PGI owes its special character to the singular geographical location of Italy’s northernmost province of Alto Adige or South Tyrol.

Alongside various Speck specialties (such as Speck-flavored dumplings, speck platters, etc.), visitors will experience a colorful program of entertainment. The “Gletscherhons,” or master of the art of cutting Speck Alto Adige PGI, Hans Mantinger, always delights festival-goers with creative, amazingly complex compositions featuring Speck as the center of attention.

In addition, visitors can enjoy traditional South Tyrolean music and small stores set up in wooden huts offering regional handicrafts and culinary delights of Alto Adige, including a wide range of food and beverage accompaniments to Speck.
