The Smetana’s Litomyšl festival is the second-oldest music festival in Czechia and, at the same time, among the largest regular classical music festivals in the country. A musical experience in Litomyšl, the birthplace of the founder of Czech national music, Bedřich Smetana.
The most famous native of Litomyšl, composer Bedřich Smetana, is celebrated every summer with a big music festival. The main program consists of opera productions, concert versions of operas, gala concerts, oratorios, cantatas, and songbook evenings, but the varied program also offers ballet, church, and promenade concerts or forms that overlap other genres. The center of the festival is the magnificent Litomyšl Renaissance château, with a covered courtyard and a unique theater, both registered as UNESCO sites.
