The Savonlinna Opera Festival takes place inside Olavinlinna Castle, a 15th century fortress set on a small island in the heart of Lake Saimaa in eastern Finland. Performances are held in the castle’s inner courtyard, which naturally forms an open air amphitheater. The festival presents full scale opera productions, combining classic repertoire with occasional new Finnish works, performed by Finnish and international soloists in collaboration with the Finnish National Opera.
