The Lađa Boat Marathon is a traditional rowing event held on the Neretva River in southern Croatia. It follows a 22.5 kilometer route connecting the towns of Metković, Opuzen and Ploče.

The race features teams rowing in traditional lađa boats, wooden vessels once used for transport and trade in the Neretva Valley. Today, the event plays an important role in preserving local heritage and reflecting the region’s strong connection to river life. Around 30 teams and several hundred rowers typically take part.

The start in Metković is a defining moment, as all teams set off at once, guided by drum signals that help maintain a steady rhythm. Spectators gather along the riverbanks, on bridges and in boats, following the race as it moves downstream toward Ploče.

Attendance is free, and visitors can enjoy the race from various points along the route. Metković can be reached by regional bus, while other locations are accessible by car.

The event offers a unique insight into the cultural identity and traditions of the Neretva Valley.
