In northern Germany, Kiel Week (“Kieler Woche” or “KiWo”) brings together one of the world’s largest international sailing events and a major public festival. Each year, water sports enthusiasts from around the globe travel to Kiel, where the city transforms into a large celebration area on land and at sea.

The program includes Olympic and non-Olympic regattas as well as surfing competitions. Visitors can watch impressive boats, ships, and yachts in action while exploring the waterfront and harbor areas. Alongside the sailing events, the festival features sports activities, live music and dance performances, colorful hot air balloons, soapbox races, and a wide range of food offerings.

Kiel Week usually takes place during the last full week of June and always ends on the final Sunday of the month. For several days, the city becomes a vibrant meeting point for athletes, sailing fans, and visitors interested in maritime culture and open-air festivities.

Kiel Week is an annual event that combines competitive sailing with a traditional Volksfest atmosphere, offering experiences both on the water and on land.
