The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam takes place each November and is the largest documentary film festival in the world.

Founded in 1988, it brings together filmmakers, industry professionals and audiences to explore stories from around the globe. Over ten to twelve days, more than 300 documentaries are screened at cinemas and cultural venues across Amsterdam.

The program includes international premieres, competitions, and films by both emerging and established filmmakers, along with discussions with directors about their work and the themes behind their films. Events are held throughout the city at major cinemas and cultural institutions.

Held annually in November, the festival offers tickets for individual screenings and events. Most venues are easily accessible by public transportation from Amsterdam Central Station and other key transit hubs.
