Kruševac — a blend of nature and history

Welcome to Kruševac, a city that combines rich medieval history, stunning natural beauty, and a modern spirit. Once the capital of Serbia, Kruševac was a key location where history was made, and today it offers numerous opportunities for enjoyment, relaxation, and adventure.

Just 20 kilometers from the city lies Jastrebac, the most forested mountain in this part of the Balkans. Declared a protected area, this natural treasure safeguards an invaluable diversity of flora and fauna. The mountain offers fresh air, crystal-clear water, and breathtaking landscapes, making it an ideal destination for rest, hiking, and exploration.

Jastrebac is a paradise for adventurers such as cyclists, scouts, and extreme sports enthusiasts. The Adventure Park Jastrebac Lake Resort provides a unique experience with its double zip line over the lake, climbing wall certified for international free climbing competitions, and children’s adventure trails. For those who prefer a quieter stay, the area boasts comfortable accommodations at the Trayal and Idila hotels, which are surrounded by pristine nature.

In the late 14th century, Kruševac served as the capital of medieval Serbia, a center of commerce and culture. It was under the rule of Despot Stefan Lazarević, known as the Dragon Knight. Members of the Order of the Dragon were leading European rulers and military commanders, the elite of their time. Serbian Despot Stefan Lazarević held a high rank within the order, just behind King Sigismund, its founder. Artifacts, photographs, and documents that tell the story of Kruševac’s political, military, economic, and cultural life await you at the National Museum of Kruševac.

The history of Kruševac is further revealed at the Archaeological Park Lazarev Grad, which connects the National Museum, the Monument to Prince Lazar (the city’s founder), the Donjon Tower, and the 14th-century Lazarica Church. Strolling through this historical complex, you can feel the spirit of bygone centuries and imagine life during the despotate.

When you return to the present, look for relaxation and fun at Šarengrad, a modern amusement park that brings joy to both children and adults. Covering almost four acres, the park offers playgrounds suitable for children of all ages, including those with disabilities, while parents can enjoy mini-golf, giant chess, or simply the enchanting atmosphere. The Šarengrad Ice Rink transforms the park into a true winter wonderland during winter.

Urban parks worldwide offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. In Kruševac, residents and visitors find tranquility at Bagdala Park on a hill offering panoramic views of the entire city. It’s perfect for romantic walks or moments of introspection. Meanwhile, with its memorial complex, the Park of Peace reminds us of the importance of unity and peace in today’s world.

Visit Kruševac and become part of a story that spans centuries.
