Go car-free for travel that’s kind to nature

Travel car-free, in the rhythm of your own steps or turning bicycle wheels. Czechia offers excellent conditions for green travel thanks to its dense network of marked routes, useful infrastructure, and environmentally kind approach to nature.

Keep pace with locals

Czechia boasts more than 44,000km of hiking trails — greater than the length of the equator! The Czech Tourist Club has been maintaining this well-marked network for over 130 years with unified color-coded markings and updated routes. Thanks to dedicated volunteers and a clear system, you won’t get lost, even in the most remote areas.

Lužnice Valley Trail and Prachov Rocks

The quality of Czech trails stands out even on a European scale. The 55km Lužnice Valley Trail, divided into four daily stages, was included among the best hiking routes in Europe as part of the prestigious “Leading Quality Trails — Best of Europe” list. It leads through a picturesque valley from Planánad Lužnicí, through Tábor and Bechyně, all the way to Týn nad Vltavou.

Environmental sustainability is present even at heavily visited spots such as the photogenic Prachovské Rocks in Bohemian Paradise, one of the most popular destinations in Czechia. How? Thanks to unique composting toilets. These wooden huts, shaped like a snail shell, are completely independent of water and electricity.

Without a car? It’s easy

Thousands of kilometers of cycle routes across Czechia connect natural beauty with local services. For example, the Greenway Prague-Vienna trail takes you through the picturesque South Bohemia and the wine-rich region of Moravia all the way to the Austrian capital. In northern Czechia you’ll find the Singltrek pod Smrkem — a network of responsibly built mountain bike trails set in the Jizerské Mountains. The quality guarantee “Cyclists Welcome” certification marks cyclist-friendly accommodation and businesses that offer facilities and services geared for travelers on two wheels.

Carefree by train

A dense railway network connected to European routes supports eco-friendly travel in Czechia. Reaching the mountains or countryside without a car is easy. Shared (e-)bike stations are increasingly available in cities and regions.

Green Prague

The Czech capital, Prague, ranks among the greenest capital cities in Europe — not only because of its number of parks, but its approach to sustainability. Expansive urban oases such as Stromovka, Divoká Šárka and Prokopské Valley invite activity and relaxation, while the city center, with its pedestrian zones, farmers’ markets and a growing network of cycle paths, offers green experiences within easy reach. Whether you take a stroll along the Vltava, hop on a bike, or explore local flavors, Prague proves that even a large city can breathe green.

How to travel green

Travel outside the main season, combine hiking and cycling trips with train transport, support local businesses and services, minimize waste, and respect nature. Enjoy traveling green!
