Artès Grape Harvest Festival
Bages, a region at the geographical heart of Catalonia, has a rich legacy of grape growing and wine-making. These activities were one of the cornerstones of the region’s economy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Currently, the Destination of Origion Pla de Bages covers an area of 500 hectares over 27 municipalities. Eleven wineries produce quality wine and two make cava under the control of the Destination of Origin Cava.
What started out as a simple means of promoting the wineries and their products has developed into a major festival based around the vineyards and wine of Bages.
Children can gain an insight into the culture of grape-growing by riding into the vineyards on tractors and picking grapes, which they can later tread to produce a must they can take home with them.
Street entertainment draws on the history of wine for its inspiration. Quality wines are available to sample. There are tastings of local farm produce. Artisans demonstrate their skills. A variety of activities are available to enjoy.
The Town Hall of Artés, the Bages winegrower’s association and the region’s theatrical, traditional music and dance groups who organise and participate in the festival, all invite you to come along!
