Wine your way through the island
1/
A tasting journey
Tucked among sun-kissed mountains and fertile valleys, Cyprus’ wine culture is as old and rich as its myths. For travelers seek authenticity, heritage, and flavor, the island’s wine regions are a must-visit. Beyond the golden coastline lies a landscape of terraced vineyards, stone-built wineries, and quiet village lanes where the Cypriot spirit is poured generously into every glass.

A taste of Cyprus' wineries
One of the most celebrated viticultural areas lies in the southern foothills of the Troodos Mountains. This is the Commandaria region, an area encompassing 14 villages that have been producing one of the world’s oldest named wines, Commandaria, for centuries. Its rich notes and amber color come from sun-dried grapes and a unique ageing process in oak barrels, a method refined by the Knights Templar during the Middle Ages. Visitors to this region can explore small, family-run wineries, see ancient wine presses, and walk along cobbled streets where the scent of fermenting grapes pervades the air. Not only part of Cyprus’s winemaking history, these villages are living museums of tradition, each bottle telling a story of devotion and continuity.
3/
Limassol Wine Region
A short drive away is the Limassol Wine Region and the highest concentration of wineries in Cyprus. These vineyards benefit from the altitude and cooling mountain breezes, ideal growing conditions for native grape varieties like xynisteri and maratheftiko. Picturesque villages such as Vouni and Koilani, known for their wine festivals and agrotourism, offer visitors the chance to meet winemakers in person, taste their creations, and learn about techniques handed down for generations. Cultural events, local feasts, and a custom of hospitality combine to make every visit personal and memorable.

Vineyards
In the Paphos District, the Laona-Akamas region offers a different kind of wine experience. Its vineyards, planted across sloping hills overlooking the Mediterranean, produce crisp whites and aromatic blends. Proximity to the Akamas Peninsula means wine tasting can easily be combined with hiking, visiting Byzantine chapels, or swimming in a hidden cove. Nature, culture, and wine combine for an immersive rural escape.

A taste of Cyprus' wineries
Venturing inland, the Larnaka–Nicosia Wine Route reveals a lesser-known yet deeply rewarding journey. Passing through rural towns such as Kornos, Lefkara, and Vavla, this route highlights small-scale wineries that produce both traditional and innovative wines. Supported by regional tourism initiatives, the route weaves together handmade lace, folklore, and scenic vineyard stops. It’s a great option for travelers based in the central or eastern parts of the island, offering a peaceful and authentic alternative to the busy coast.

Varieties of grapes
Exploring Cyprus’s wine regions is more than a tasting journey; it’s a cultural pilgrimage. Well-marked government-supported wine routes, welcoming local producers, and deep-rooted traditions invite travelers to raise a glass and savor centuries of passion, resilience, and celebration.
